Cognac Frapin Millésime 1992 wins Taste Master award

The Cognac Masters 2020 delivered an extraordinarily high number of medal-worthy spirits, but the coveted title of Cognac Taste Master was bestowed upon Cognac Frapin Millésime 1992.

Cognac Frapin is celebrating its 750th anniversary this year

This year’s Cognac Masters took place at the Charlotte Street branch of Gaucho in London.

The blind-tasting competition was judged by Matt Chambers, co‐founder of Whisky for Everyone; Evan Prousaefs, bar manager at The Leaf and Cane in London; Matt Neal, UK brand ambassador for Uncle Nearest; and Melita Kiely, editor of The Spirits Business magazine, and chair of the event.

Cognac Frapin Millésime 1992 was awarded a Master medal in the Vintage – Single Cru flight, praised for its “fruitiness, versus dry spiciness and savoury quality”, which the judges said added “extra depth and complexity” to the spirit.

Prousaefs said: “This is a beautifully crafted Cognac.”

After retasting all the Master medallists from the day, the judges agreed that Cognac Frapin Millésime 1992 was the deserving winner of the Cognac Taste Master 2020 title.

Furthermore, Frapin XO VIP also received a Master medal in this year’s tasting in the XO – Single Cru round.

“You can only get certain characteristics with a bit of extra age,” said Chambers. “Here we started to get some of that coming through. The subtle spiciness and dryness on the finish just elongated everything.”
