Vinexpo New York 2020 ‘exceeds’ expectations
By Melita KielyThe 2020 Vinexpo New York show “exceeded” exhibitor expectations in the face of difficult trading conditions due to tariffs and coronavirus.
Vinexpo New York 2020 took place from 2-3 March
Vinexpo New York 2020 said exhibitor feedback for the 2020 event, which took place from 2-3 March at the Jacob K Javits Convention Center in New York, reported “high engagement” and “positive business results”.
Beckie Kier, event director of Diversified Communications, which organised the show, said: “The evolving nature of the tariff situation underscored the importance for the industry to meet in New York last week.
“Vinexpo New York provided opportunities for stakeholders to discuss the challenges face to face and work together to navigate them.
“We are very pleased with [the] quality of exhibitors and attendees at this year’s show and the meetings that took place there.”
Over the two-day show, industry experts led six conference sessions focused on topics including e-commerce, the impact of cannabis on the alcoholic beverage industry, and low- and no-alcohol drinks.
Steve Melchiskey, president, USA Wine West, said: “This was our first time exhibiting in New York and it exceeded our expectations.
“We brought 21 producers from eight different categories and we met with a number of top buyers, including those from Lidl and Hannaford. In just one hour at the event, we had more success than we’ve had at other US shows.”
Several leading wine and spirits trade shows have cancelled or postponed their 2020 events due to the Covid-19 outbreak, including ProWein, IAADFS Summit of the Americas, Vinexpo Hong Kong and TFWA Asia Pacific.
