Rare Spirits Society explores rum with YouTube docuseries
The Rare Spirits Society has produced a YouTube docuseries dedicated to rum and travel, called Uncharted Territories.
The new Rare Spirits Society YouTube channel documentary series premiered on 13 April 2024.
Co-founded in 2023 by Venezuelans Antonio Lopez de Haro and Luigi Rockets, the channel explores rum from a traveller’s perspective by visiting distilleries to find spirit-filled adventures worldwide.
In the first episode of the series – Cambodia, Kingdom of Wonder – the society’s members explore how culture, heritage and terrain affect the spirit made at Cambodia’s first rum distillery, Samai.
“To fall in love with a rum, you must fall in love with its country,” said Lopez, who co-founded the Samai rum distillery in 2014, adding that “it’s in the soul of the land where the spirit of the rum truly comes alive”.
The second episode of the series will be shot in Venezuela in the next few months.
Upcoming episodes are focused on various countries around the world, including Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Barbados and the Philippines.
The company, which identifies as ‘a global community of rum aficionados’, is also set to produce a range of independently bottled rums.
In March 2024, the venture acquired two casks from the Puerto Rican San Juan Artisan Distillers.
