The 2020 Fife Whisky Festival was a “sell-out success”, with around 650 whisky lovers descending on the annual event.
The Scottish whisky festival, organised by Karen Somerville and Justine Hazlehurst, returned for its third event this year. The organisers have already unveiled plans for the fourth festival in 2021.
Wendy Chamberlain, Liberal Democrats MP for North East Fife, said: “The festival was very busy once again and is an important event for Fife.
“The festival is very important in terms of tourism for North East Fife and it’s great that it brings people into Cupar and to visit Lindores Abbey which is a fantastic setting for the Friday dinner.”
French distillery Comte de Grasse hosted an exploration into the science of scent in London last week.
Led by scientist and innovator Marie-Anne Contamin, the event aimed to explore the link between traditional perfume making in Grasse, France, and the distilling techniques used by Comte de Grasse to make 44°N gin
Taking place at Four Seasons Hotel at Ten Trinity Square, guests learned about how perfume making inspired Comte de Grasse’s approach to gin making.
In the wake of social distancing regulations implemented to stem the spread of coronavirus, a host of bars have launched delivery services to help drinkers avoiding the outside world.
Bars including The Sun Tavern and Discount Suit Company in London have begun selling bottled cocktails, beer, cider and spirits to take away, as well as gift vouchers that can be used once the pandemic has passed.
All proceeds from the sale of The Sun Tavern and Discount Suit Company’s home-delivery offerings will go towards sustaining the business and supporting staff through current hardships
The Cotswolds Distillery team has also launched a delivery offering to keep drinkers stocked up while self-isolating.
The team at UK-based Cotswolds Distillery has launched its Thirst Aid campaign and are using the site’s Land Rover to hand-deliver bottles of Cotswolds Dry Gin and Cotswolds Single Malt Whisky to local customers.
The English distiller will offer free home delivery on all orders over £20 (US$24). Orders are being taken by phone between 8.30am and 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.
Also looking to support quarantined drinkers is rum brand The Duppy Share, which has created a self-isolation kit for rum lovers.
The Home Rum kit includes a 200ml bottle of The Duppy Share aged rum, as well as two 200ml bottles of Fever-Tree ginger beer and two branded cups.
The Duppy Share is donating all profits from sales of the kit to Hospitality Action, a charity dedicated to supporting the industry during times of crisis.
Scotch whisky brand J&B Rare has partnered with The Grill at The Dorchester hotel in London to serve up a new signature cocktail, called The Tangerine Tipple.
The whisky-based serve was created by senior bartender of The Bar at The Dorchester, Lucia Montanelli (pictured).
The cocktail is made with J&B Rare Scotch whisky, cranberry juice, Italicus, tangerine syrup, Yellow Chartreuse and egg white.

Pre-batch cocktail specialist World of Zing partnered with UK restaurant chain Bill’s to create a new cocktail menu for its venues.
Designed in conjunction with Dan Whiteside, bar development manager at Bill’s, the World of Zing team has created a menu of drinks inspired by seasonal ingredients and modern trends.
Cocktails on the new list are delivered to restaurants in a ready-to-serve format, and include the Pineapple Express (pictured), Grapefruit & Rosemary Paloma, Apple & Elderflower Shimmering Sour and Passionfruit Spritz.
English gin brand Slingsby has launched a range of 50ml miniatures, which are said to be “ideal for unique wedding favours”.
Slingsby Gin minis are available to purchase on the Spirit of Harrogate website now, and includes 48 miniatures in a pack. Available for £240 (US$280), the pack includes the brand’s flavoured gins, such as rhubarb, gooseberry and marmalade.
Co-founder of Spirit of Harrogate, Marcus Black, said: “Wedding favours serve as a little thank you to friends and families who celebrate with you on your special day, and with our new line of minis we can help share that love with Slingsby.”
