Berry Bros online sales hit new highs

Wine and spirits merchant Berry Bros & Rudd witnessed its biggest day for online sales last week as consumers snapped up bottles of booze amid the coronavirus crisis.

Taking to LinkedIn last Friday (27 March), Luigi Barzini, head of sales and distributors at British retailer Berry Bros & Rudd, said in a post: “Yesterday we had the biggest day online in the history of www.bbr.com. Today we will deliver 18,000 bottles and tomorrow this will increase to over 24,000 bottles. Thank you for supporting independent retailers in these difficult times.”

Last week, the UK government added off-licences and licensed shops selling alcohol to its list of essential businesses that can stay open during the nation’s coronavirus lockdown.

The government ordered the closure of bars, pubs and restaurants on 20 March to slow the spread of covid-19.

Berry Bros & Rudd operates a store at 63 Pall Mall in London and a warehouse in Basingstoke, however the sites are temporarily closed to protect the safety of its customers and staff amid the pandemic.

The British business is thought to be the world’s oldest drinks retailer. To see the history behind the company, click here.
