Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits to change name
By Joe RogersThe largest alcohol distributor in the US will drop ‘wine & spirits’ from its name in July 2026 to reflect its expansion into beer, non-alcoholic, and ready-to-drink products.

The firm currently known as Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits (SGWS) is set to become Southern Glazer’s Beverage Co.
“These lines have been crossed: we are no longer just a wine and spirits company,” said commercial sales president Mark Chaplin.
“People think of us as new to the beer, non-alc and RTD industries, but we’ve actually been doing it at a smaller scale for many years in Nevada, South Carolina and a couple of other markets.
“Now, we’ll do over 60m cases of these types of products across our network.”
SGWS currently operates in 47 US states, as well as Canada, the Caribbean, Central and South America.
The renaming will coincide with the 10th anniversary of the merger between Southern Wine & Spirits and Glazer’s, which created the company in its current form.
Zachary Poelma, senior vice-president of commercial intelligence at SGWS, recently spoke to The Spirits Business about his ‘2030 Vision’ that aims to make it the hospitality industry’s ‘most valued selling, logistics and insights provider’.
This announcement follows news that SGWS’s biggest competitor, Republic National Distribution Company (RNDC), planned to sell off its operations in 11 states to Reyes Beverage Group.
