Maker’s Mark launches Private Select whiskey in GTR

Beam Suntory-owned Maker’s Mark has partnered with duty free operator Heinemann to launch a cask strength whiskey infused with 10 oak staves as part of its Private Select series.

Launched exclusively in travel retail this month, the latest whiskey in the Private Select series was made from a single fully matured barrel of Maker’s Mark infused with 10 specially treated oak staves.

The staves include baked American pure, seared French oak, roasted French mocha and toasted French spice, with each wood variety imparting differing levels of spice, sweetness and vanilla notes to the finished product.

The Kentucky-based team of distillers and Heinemann’s liquor buyer, Amy Curtis, worked together to create the Heinemann Private Select, which is described as being “a medium-bodied whiskey with a sweet, smoky finish”.

Bottled at 54.1% ABV, the whiskey is said to have flavours of raisins, stone fruit, apricot and nutmeg.

Curtis said: “In April of this year I made my mark and created my own unique expression of Maker’s Mark and it is finally here. A very proud career moment for me.

“A huge thank you to the Beam Suntory Travel Retail team for the opportunity, which would not have been possible if it weren’t for our great partnership. Truly an amazing experience.”

To celebrate the launch of Heinemann Private Select, shoppers travelling through Sydney International Airport in December will be able to sample the whiskey at the Heinemann Tasting Bar.

Ed Stening, global marketing director at Beam Suntory, said: “Following an exciting design process with our friends at Heinemann we’re delighted to announce the launch of Heinemann Private Select into global travel retail this December. It has been an absolute pleasure to work so closely with one our longest standing customers to bring this unique liquid to life for travellers from around the world.

“The launch of Heinemann Private Select is a first for travel retail and we’re extremely excited to see how well the spirit performs following its success in both the UK and US market.”

Maker’s Mark Heinemann Private Select has been priced at AU$120 (US$82) per 750ml bottle.
