Bardstown Bourbon Co finishes whiskey in red wine barrels

The Bardstown Bourbon Company has created an expression finished in red wine barrels as part of its Collaborative Series.

The Bourbon has been finished in French oak red wine barrels

The Bourbon maker has teamed up with The Prisoner Wine Company in California to create the new whiskey.

The nine-year-old Tennessee Bourbon, called Bardstown Bourbon Company & The Prisoner Wine Co Collaboration, has been aged for 18 months in the same French oak red wine barrels used to age the winemaker’s flagship product, The Prisoner.

“This spirit is very complex, with a welcoming bouquet of blackberry and black cherry, blended with honey and vanilla,” said Steve Nally, master distiller at The Bardstown Bourbon Company. “The luxury wine blend’s red fruit flavours take the lead on the palate.”

The new bottling (50% ABV), is the latest addition to join the Kentucky producer’s Collaborative Series. It follows the launch of three expressions finished in brandy and beer barrels in September this year.

Bardstown Bourbon Company’s vice president of sales and marketing, Herb Heneman, added: “The last collaborative expressions we released were very limited, so we’re excited to kick off the new year with a big release available in multiple markets across the country.”

The expression will be released in January 2020 in all of Bardstown Bourbon Company’s current markets, including Kentucky, Indiana and Nashville. It will be priced at RRP US$124.99 per 750ml bottle.

As the distillery expands its national footprint in 2020, the Bourbon will also enter new markets, including Washington DC, Maryland, Delaware, Colorado, Nevada, Texas and Ohio.
