Canadian Club adds 42-year-old to Chronicles range

Beam Suntory-owned Canadian Club has extended its premium Chronicles series with the launch of a limited edition 42-year-old whisky.

Canadian Club Chronicles 42 Year Old is thought to be the oldest Canadian whisky on the market

The expression, called Canadian Club Chronicles 42 Year Old Issue No. 2: The Dock Man, celebrates the historic dock worker who delivered whisky to bar owners and consumers during the Prohibition era. It is thought to be the oldest Canadian whisky on the market.

The 45% ABV whisky is said to have “robust rye spice, delicate notes of brown sugar and baking spices” on the palate. The palate has a “lingering taste of toffee and a subtle tartness”.

“At Canadian Club, we pride ourselves on our commitment to consistently crafting superior Canadian whisky,” said Tish Harcus, global whisky ambassador.

“For more than 150 years, we’ve consistently delivered quality expressions to whisky drinkers, and the release of Canadian Club 42 Year Old continues this tradition.

“Following the success of our first CC [Canadian Club] Chronicles release last year, we’re excited to unveil another premium, distinctive whisky that endures the test of time.”

The Dock Man bottling follows the launch of the first expression in the range, Canadian Club Chronicles: Issue No1 Water of Windsor Aged 41 Years, which was named Canadian Whisky of the Year in Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible 2018.

Each release in the Chronicles range will “represent an iconic moment in Canadian Club’s rich history”.

Every year, Canadian Club plans to release a new whisky in the range up to 45 years old, when the brand will skip five years and release a 50-year-old, according to Rob Tucker, senior brand manager for Canadian, American and Irish whisk(e)ys at Beam Suntory.

Canadian Club Chronicles 42 Year Old will be available across the US in “very limited quantities”, priced at US$299.95 per 750ml bottle.
