Cambridge Distillery debuts tonic water
UK-based Cambridge Distillery has unveiled a tonic water made with locally grown lemon verbena.
Cambridge Tonic is said to be a “tonic for true gin drinkers”
The new Cambridge Tonic is available as part of a partnership with subscription service the Craft Gin Club.
The addition of lemon verbena is said to provide the tonic water with a “crisp, zesty profile needed to balance the bitter quinine, reducing the need for additional sugar or artificial sweeteners”.
William Lowe, Cambridge Distillery’s founder and master distiller, said: “Cambridge Tonic is a beautifully balanced tonic with a relatively low sugar content, allowing you to really taste the gin. It’s a tonic for true gin drinkers.
“It’s not a lemon verbena-flavoured tonic as such – rather, we have used this wonderful ingredient to create a more elegant and refined flavour than traditional Indian tonic water.
“The creation of our Cambridge Tonic was a natural evolution for the distillery. I was constantly being asked how to achieve the perfect serve for our gins, and with the infrastructure and the expertise to craft incredible liquids already in place, it was really an obvious progression towards completing the perfect G&T.”
Cambridge Tonic is available in the November Craft Gin Club subscription box, which also comes with a limited edition bottle of Rosemary & Lemon Verbena Cambridge Dry Gin.
Through the partnership, 80,000 bottles of Cambridge Tonic and 39,000 bottles of Rosemary & Lemon Verbena Cambridge Dry Gin have been sent out to subscribers.
Cambridge Tonic will soon be available more widely.
