Reyka Vodka this week opened the doors to the “world’s first” glacier bar, popping up at the Langjökull Glacier in Iceland.

Open until 20 October, the Reyka Vodka Glacier Bar welcomed intrepid adventurers for signature Reyka Vodka cocktails including the Puffin Collins.

Armed with only the bar’s co-ordinates, Reyka challenged adventurous vodka fans to locate the bar, where they would be rewarded with a warm welcome, cocktails and a chance to explore the brand’s Icelandic home.

Former American football player Chris Long and Canadian whisky brand Crown Royal surprised Philadelphia Eagles fans this week.

Long popped into a Philadelphia bar during one of the Eagles’ games to meet fans as part of the Crown Royal Water Break initiative.

The scheme encourages sports fans to take regular water breaks between drinks, and Long hung around the bar through the game encouraging fans to stay hydrated and drink responsibly.

The Scotch Whisky Action Fund (SWAF) this week hosted an event to highlight Scottish projects that tackle alcohol-related harm.

The annual learning event is the SWAF’s fifth to date, and featured presentations from eight projects from around Scotland that have received funding to support their causes.

Chaired by Douglas Meikle, head of alcohol policy at the Scotch Whisky Association, the event featured opening remarks from Karen Betts, chief executive at the association, as well as presentations and discussions.

Diageo-owned Talisker Scotch whisky has launched a competition in search of the “wildest bartender in the world” to run a bar in the Canary Islands.

The Skye-based whisky brand is on the hunt for a bartender to run its pop-up bar, and has asked bartenders to create videos of the “wildest” Talisker serves and post them to Instagram to be in with a chance of winning a trip to the Canary Islands in December.

Talisker will open the doors to the “world’s wildest bar” in La Gomera, the Canary Islands, ahead of the start of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, which sees 36 teams from around the world row 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean.

On Tuesday, SB headed to the Chelsea Physic Garden in west London for the launch of BrewDog Distilling Co’s latest release, Five Hundred Cuts Rum.

The new botanical rum was designed to be an “interesting bridge” between rum and gin and is flavoured with ingredients such as ginger and tonka bean. The branding and label design was inspired by Elizabeth Blackwell, an 18th century author who wrote the reference book A Curious Herbal, a collection of illustrations of botanicals.

During the launch of the new rum, SB had the chance to taste the spirit and sample it in a range of cocktails created by Laki Kane founder Georgi Radev.

London bar Lyaness this week unveiled its latest drinks list, which features cocktails made with seven core ingredients, including rare tea, sourdough starter and vegan honey.

Alongside Infinite Banana, Onyx and Purple Pineapple, which were found on the bar’s first menu, the team at Lyaness has created four new ingredients that will be utilised in their drinks.

Curious imbibers can head to the bar on London’s Southbank to sample ‘liqueur-style’ Peach Emoji, Vegan Honey, tea-based Lyaness Tea-mooth and yeast-inspired Golden Levain.

Swiss ski resort LAAX opened its LAAX baby! bar at Mews of Mayfair this week, bringing the “freestyle lifestyle” to the UK capital.

Aiming to transport drinkers to the snowy slopes of LAAX, the bar will open daily, serving a wide range of alpine cocktails made in collaboration with One Gin and sparkling wine brand Ridgeview.

Cocktails on offer include the Rocks Negroni, made with One Sage Gin infused with dried winter fruits, Campari and sweet vermouth.

Bar 45 at 45 Park Lane in London hosted an exclusive Negroni-making masterclass this week.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the classic cocktail, the London bar invited Mario Fasano and Daniele Confalonieri from its sister properties Hotel Eden Rome and Milan’s Principe di Savoia in Italy to teach drinkers in London how to make the perfect Negroni.

The evening saw guests transported through the origins of the cocktail, uncovering its history as they learned to craft their own perfect Negroni.

Italian drinks brand Martini partnered with TV presenter and supper-club hostess Laura Jackson to curate an Aperitivo menu in collaboration with pizzeria Radio Alice.

The new menu launched at the Hoxton restaurant this week, featuring cocktails designed to highlight the orange flavours of Martini’s latest release, Martini Fiero.

At the menu’s launch, guests learned about the menu’s inspiration and undertook a masterclass to learn to make their own perfect Martini serve.

Texas distillery Balcones announced its upcoming partnership with Texan singer-songwriter Jarrod Dickenson for his UK tour.

The spirits maker will offer a number of spirits to Dickenson fans who attend the musician’s 13-date UK tour, from 22 November to 7 December.

The drams on offer will range from Baby Blue, made with roasted Texas blue corn, to Texas Rye 100 and Texas Single Malt.
