Irish Distillers unveils Midleton Very Rare 2019

Irish Distillers has revealed the 2019 edition in its Midleton Very Rare Irish whiskey collection – the 36th iteration in the series.

Midleton Very Rare 2019 is made with whiskey aged between 13 and 34 years

Midleton Very Rare 2019 combines single pot still and single grain Irish whiskeys selected by master distiller Brian Nation.

Each cask has been matured exclusively in lightly charred ex-Bourbon American oak barrels for between 13 and 34 years – marking the oldest casks used to create a Midleton Very Rare expression.

“Each year, for over 40 years, we have been setting aside very small amounts of the finest single pot still and single grain distillates so that the Midleton Very Rare legacy can continue,” explained Nation.

“I am delighted that our 2019 vintage is once again a whiskey of exceptional quality that fits beautifully into the family.

“This vintage features an extraordinary blend of whiskeys from the rarest casks in our collection, with the youngest whiskey in our 2019 vintage having been aged for 13 years, and the oldest dating back to 1985.”

Bottled at 40% abv, the whiskey is said to have ripe fruit notes of sweet pear and apple on the nose, along with a touch of mango. The palate has a “luscious and silky texture with the orchard fruits and pot still spices coming to the fore” followed by a coffee and nutty character on the finish.

Midleton Very Rare 2019 is available globally at an RRP of €180 (US$198).

To mark its release, Irish Distillers has launched the 1825 Room, a members-only site that celebrates Midleton Distillery’s influence on Irish distilling.

The site offers exclusive content about Midleton Very Rare, as well as an online store, which will sell five rare vintages during October.

Members will also have the opportunity to purchase a bottle of Midleton’s first 1984 vintage through a ballot for €50.80 (US$56).
