BCB names Mauritius as 2019 country of honour

Trade show Bar Convent Berlin (BCB) has selected Mauritius as this year’s country of honour to showcase “rum diversity”.

Mauritius is the country of honour at the 2019 Bar Convent Berlin show

The on-trade-focused event will take place from 7-9 October 2019 at Station Berlin and Kühlhaus Berlin.

This year will see a number of exhibitors from Mauritius bring “rum diversity” to Germany’s capital. The exhibitors will be featured at Kühlhaus, which will serve as the ‘House of Rum’.

Exhibitors from the island nation include Grays & Co, Rhumerie De Chamarel, Litchquor, House of Lords, Oxenham Craft Distillery, Rhumerie Des Mascareignes and the Stirling Export House.

The country exports its rums to more than 30 countries.

According to BCB, the Mauritian rum industry has 14 rum suppliers, including six distilleries producing more than 32 rum brands.

Mauritius is thought to be one of the few countries that produces both agricultural rum from fresh sugar cane syrup and traditional rum. It also makes rums flavoured with fruit, spices or local coffee.

Distillerie de Labourdonnais will be bringing its column-distilled white rum, Classic Gold and Spiced Gold Rum, a Single Cask and XO Vintage rum.

“On top of this, we will bring an all-new rum to BCB, which has aged in Cognac barrels for two years and was then flavoured with vanilla for several months,” said general manager Mickaël Derunes.

Litchquor will have its Gold of Mauritius rum at the show, which is available in 26 countries around the world. The company is also producing a rum-based liqueur.

At BCB, Stirling Export House Rum will showcase its four rums, including Green Island Superior Light Rum and Green Island Spiced Rum.
