Breaking Bad stars launch Dos Hombres Mezcal

Breaking Bad actors Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul have become the latest stars to enter the agave spirits world with the launch of Dos Hombres Mezcal.

Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul starred in American TV series Breaking Bad

Dos Hombres uses spirit from mezcal producers in San Luis del Rio, Oaxaca, which Cranston and Paul selected after travelling to Mexico to find “something so damn good even people who don’t think they like mezcal will love it”.

Announcing the launch on his Instagram page, Cranston said: “We had the time of our lives while shooting Breaking Bad and truly built a very special bond. Knowing that we couldn’t share the screen for quite a while our thoughts turned to a new project.

“We sipped cocktails and thought about what it should be. The younger one looked at his drink and said, ‘you know what we should do? We should do a really special mezcal’.”

After deciding on the project, Cranston said the pair started traveling to Oaxaca to find the “perfect” mezcal.

He said: “We searched high and low all over Oaxaca, met incredible people along the way and after a beautiful yet gruelling search throughout that majestic landscape we believed we may have found our place. Our mezcal. It was on a dirt-road, in a tiny village, hours away from the centre of town, we found it and it was perfect. Holy shit it was perfect.”

Dos Hombres is made using espadin agave, the piñas from the plants are cooked in earthen pits to release their sugars before being crushed using a tahona wheel. After fermenting for seven to 10 days, Dos Hombres mezcal is distilled in copper stills.

In his social media post Cranston continued: “It’s been a long and crazy journey and we couldn’t be happier to share this with you and the rest of the world. We are crazy about the taste, the aroma, and the versatility of this smokey, age-old alcohol. Try it, and let us know what you think. We are certain you will love it.”

Dos Hombres Espadin Mezcal is available to buy now online from Reserve Bar for US$58 per 750ml bottle.

Cranston and Paul’s entry into the agave spirits industry follows the likes of George Clooney and his Casamigos Tequila brand and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, who plans to launch Mana Tequila.
