By Melita KielyDrinks industry charity The Benevolent has appointed former head of London Wine Fair Ross Carter as its new CEO.
Ross Carter has been appointed CEO of The Benevolent
Carter, who headed up London Wine Fair from 2013 to 2017, will take over from current CEO Chris Porter from 15 July.
Michael Saunders, chairman of The Benevolent, said: “The board of trustees and I are delighted to welcome Ross to the role of CEO of The Benevolent and he has our full support as we look to evolve the good work that The Benevolent has continued to do since 1886.”
Since 2017, Carter has been responsible for the food service and hospitality division of exhibition organiser Fresh Montgomery, and has led the strategic repositioning of the UK trade event Hotelympia (now HRC).
While working for London Wine Fair, Carter moved the event back to Olympia, grew the number of UK agencies taking part in the show and increased the number of distributors involved threefold.
In 2016, Carter received the Julian Brind Memorial Award for ‘outstanding achievement’ in the wine industry in recognition of the “transformative role” he had with the London Wine Fair.
Carter commented: “Being offered the role of CEO of The Benevolent is a privilege and a great honour and I am delighted to have been given this opportunity by the board of trustees.
“I am also grateful for the trust they are placing in me to evolve what is an industry institution and I am eager to bring great energy and enthusiasm to deliver on a mandate to develop the charity.”
