Benevolent CEO Chris Porter to depart
Chris Porter will step down as CEO of drinks industry charity The Benevolent after fewer than 18 months in the role.
Chris Porter took up the position of CEO of The Benevolent in January 2018
Porter succeeded former Benevolent CEO David Cox, who retired at the end of 2017. Porter became the first Benevolent CEO from a logistics service background in the charity’s 133-year history when he took up the post.
Prior to this role, Porter had been involved with the charity for more than 20 years. He had been a trustee on the charity’s board since 2010 and acted as chairman in 2013 and 2014.
Porter said: “It is an organisation that is at the heart of an industry I love and an industry that has a heart to look after its own.
“It is one that I will continue to support for many years to come and I have been honoured and privileged to have been its CEO.”
During his time as CEO, The Benevolent grew its number of beneficiaries and managed more than 1,000 cases of support over the past year.
The charity also reported record guest numbers at its events during 2018, and also held its annual Benevolent Ball at the National History Museum for the first time last year.
Michael Saunders, chairman of The Benevolent, said: “We owe Chris a huge debt of thanks for his work for our trade charity over the last 20 years as a trustee, chairman and CEO.
“His commitment to the cause and the passion that he has shown is recognised and valued by us all.”
A successor for Porter has not yet been announced.
