In our list of the best bars that opened in April, find out about London’s newest gaming hall and take a look inside Ryan Chetiyawardana’s first overseas drinking den.

April saw a host of hot new venues hoping to entice the world’s imbibers, including a darts-focussed bar in Birmingham and a new permanent home for London pop-up The Little Yellow Door.

This month also saw a European-inspired bar open in Sydney, while London also welcomed its latest secret speakeasy.

Super Lyan, Amsterdam

Ryan Chetiyawardana, aka Mr Lyan, opened the doors to his first international cocktail bar this month – Super Lyan in Amsterdam.

Opening adjacent to the Kimpton De Witt hotel, Super Lyan was designed by Jacu Strauss, creative director of Lore Studio and the creative mind behind Chetiyawardana’s recently opened Lyaness venue.

Super Lyan is an all-day neighbourhood cocktail bar with a garden and bar space, serving up unique takes on classic cocktails as well as on-tap creations.

The Little Yellow Door, London

Notting Hill pop-up bar The Little Yellow Door has opened a new permanent home on London’s All Saints Road.

Based on a fictional flatshare, the drinking den offers inventive cocktails and seasonal dining over two floors filled with “colourful and quirky finds” and mismatched furniture.

The “innovative” venue features an open plan kitchen and living room, complete with a fireplace and sofas, and a cocktail list named after the fictional residents’ DVD collection.

The Lazy Bird, Chicago

Chicago’s newest drinking den opened its doors in The Hoxton Hotel, where it hosts live music as its team of bartenders serves up craft cocktails.

The bar’s menu boasts more than 50 signature serves developed by beverage director Lee Zaremba.

Cocktails on the menu at The Lazy Bird include the Blackthorn, made with Irish whiskey, dry vermouth, Vermouth di Torino, Bogart’s Biers and absinthe, and the Toronto, which combines rye whiskey, a house Fernet blend and sirop de capillaire.

Rebound, London

London’s newest gaming hall offers imbibers a chance to challenge their friends to a game of shuffleboard while they enjoy craft cocktails and local beers.

The space boasts three shuffleboard tables, as well as foosball tables, pool tables and retro arcades. On the menu, guests will find stone-baked pizzas, pasta dishes, soft drinks, wine and craft beer.

Corretto Dee Why, Sydney

Corretto Dee Why is a European-inspired eatery and bar, which opened in Sydney in April.

The brainchild of bartender Kurtis Bosley, the new venue aims to bring the local community together through a love of seasonal dishes and signature cocktails.

Cocktails on the bar’s menu include the Vanilla Club, made with Larios, Mancinno Secco, raspberry, vanilla and citrus, and the Spritzing–Vacay, which combines coconut pisco, verjus, Citrus, strawberry, flowers and sparkling wine.

The Gobpsy, London

Hidden beneath a London barbershop, The Gobpsy aims to recreate the 1920’s with a host of classic cocktails and a mysterious atmosphere.

Nestled under Bolatti Barbers on London’s Fenchurch Street, the new drinking den hopes to offer imbibers a “classic night of delicious drinks, relaxed vibes and a touch of mystery”.

Serata Hall, London

This new London cocktail bar and co-working space boasts an on-site distillery, signature cocktail menu and coal-fired pizza oven.

Serata Hall, on London’s Old Street, was opened by the team behind Martello Hall in Hackney and Canova Hall in Brixton and provides work space alongside bottomless brunch offerings and innovative cocktails.

Drinks on the menu at the new bar include the Albion Negroni, made with Kamm & Sons aperitif, Del Professore vermouth, gin and orange bitters, and the Sleepy Hollow, which combines Monte Alban mezcal, La Fee Absinthe Parisienne, Drambuie and Angostura bitters.

180 Club, Birmingham

Late-night darts bar 180 Club has opened in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, taking over a 2000sq ft basement in the city.

The new Birmingham bar offers six darts lanes, each featuring space for 14 players. The bar hopes to “reposition darts to a new demographic”.

Peter McDonald, CEO of Mosaic Pub & Dining, said: “The concept is simple; we’re making darts cool; bringing the fast-paced competitive nature of the sport into the 21st century and giving consumers a great experience.”
