Bob Dylan to launch mizunara-finished American whiskey

Singer-songwriter Bob Dylan is set to release a 25-year-old expression finished in Japanese mizunara casks as part of a new range for his American whiskey brand Heaven’s Door.

The final bottles of Heaven’s Door 10 Year Tennessee Straight Bourbon have been released

The bottling will be the inaugural release in The Bootleg Series of rare whiskeys, named after Dylan’s Bootleg Series of albums.

Mizunara oak is thought to be one of the rarest and most expensive types of oak in the world.

The first release of The Bootleg Series will be available in “very limited quantities” for the 2019 holiday season, priced at US$499.99 per 750ml. More details of the new offering will be revealed later this year.

In addition, Heaven’s Door has released the final bottles of the limited edition Heaven’s Door 10 Year Tennessee Straight Bourbon, which was first launched in November last year.

“We are excited to offer whiskey enthusiasts the last remaining bottles of Heaven’s Door 10 Year Tennessee Straight Bourbon,” said Ryan Perry, master blender for Heaven’s Door Spirits.

“The reaction to our first release was so positive, we felt we had to bring it back one last time.”

The 10-year-old Bourbon is matured using charcoal columns made from Tennessee sugar maple trees – a method known as the ‘Lincoln County Process’.

The final batch is available for pre-order via reservebar.com and for purchase in stores later this month. It is priced at US$130 per 750ml.

Dylan launched the Heaven’s Door brand last April in collaboration with Angel’s Envy Bourbon founder Marc Bushala.

The Heaven’s Door range includes Tennessee Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Double Barrel Whiskey and Straight Rye Whiskey.

Last month, Dylan revealed plans to open a new distillery for the brand in Nashville, Tennessee, which is expected to open in autumn 2020.
