Tres Agaves Tequila opens new distillery in Amatitán
Organic producer Tres Agaves Tequila has opened its first distillery in Amatitán, Mexico, and appointed Iliana Partida as its new master distiller.
The new Tres Agaves Tequila distillery, Tequilera Tap, will produce organic Tequila
The new distillery, called Tequilera Tap, is located in Amatitán, Jalisco. The site will continue to produce of the brand’s three expressions – blanco, resposado and añejo – which will now be certified organic.
The site is equipped with a 20-tonne capacity autoclave, four-stage roller mill, shallow stainless steel fermentation tanks, and copper coiled alembic distillation stills, allowing a production capacity of more than 600,000 litres annually.
In addition to its “state-of-the-art” equipment, the distillery will also use a brick horno, a tahona and shallow pine fermenting tanks.
Tequilera Tap distillery will also invite guests to experience private tastings, sample single barrel releases and tour the barrel room and grounds, which will include a garden of blue weber agave plants and a fire pit.
New master distiller Partida’s family has been growing agave and making Tequila for four generations.
“Tres Agaves has always been about family, the local community and producing the finest quality authentic Tequila,” said Barry Augus, founder and CEO of Tres Agaves Tequila.
“I’ve known Iliana’s family for 20 years and even purchased the land for the new distillery from her father, David.
“The opening of our state-of-the-art distillery with Iliana, whose family I have known since my start in the Tequila industry, marks a major milestone for us.”
The site will roll out an organic reposado in July 2019, followed by an organic añejo in January 2020. The new organic expressions will be priced at US$29.99 for Tres Agaves Organic Blanco Tequila and Tres Agaves Organic Reposado Tequila, while Tres Agaves Organic Añejo Tequila will retail at US$34.99.
Californian wine and spirits firm Trinchero Family Estates will continue to manage the sales, distribution and marketing for Tres Agaves through its joint-venture partnership since 2012.
