Milk & Honey to enter UK with Maverick Drinks
By Melita KielyIsrael’s Milk & Honey Distillery has appointed Maverick Drinks as the exclusive UK distributor of its whiskies, gins and herbal liqueur.
Milk & Honey’s single malt will launch in the UK in late 2019
Established in 2012, Tel Aviv-based Milk & Honey (M&H) was Israel’s first whisky distillery. The country’s first single malt whisky, Young Single Malt, will launch in the UK in late 2019.
The whisky has been triple-aged in Bourbon, red wine and Islay whisky casks, which are said to give flavours of black cherries, red berry fruits, hints of vanilla, candyfloss and a touch of smoke.
M&H also produces Levantine Gin, which is made from botanicals including Za’atar, lemon peel, orange and lemon verbena. M&H has also created an oak-aged version of its gin.
The distillery also has a herbal liqueur in its portfolio, called Roots. This is made from ingredients such as cardamom, thyme, almonds, coriander and jasmine.
Completing the portfolio is New Make, which forms the base of both M&H’s Young Single Malt whiskies and Levantine Gin.
Michael Vachon, Maverick Drinks head of brand development, said: “M&H is rightfully taking its place as a leader in the ‘new world’ whisky category.
“Israel’s Mediterranean climate, unique among significant whisky producers, coupled with the innovative production methods laid down by the late Dr Jim Swan, an expert on warm weather distilling, mean their spirits have a real depth and maturity to them that is on par with (or better than) many much older whiskies.”
At the start of 2019, M&H revealed plans to increase its production capacity by 20% and launch the final expression in its Young Single Malts series.
