Glenfarclas single malt trunk goes on sale for £100,000

Speyside distillery Glenfarclas has launched a £100,000 (US$127,583) trunk containing 50 vintage single malt whiskies from 1954 to 2003, which is thought to be the largest single collection ever released by a distillery.

The Glenfarclas Family Cask Trunk contains a book with the history of the distillery, along with crystal glass tumblers

The Glenfarclas Family Cask Trunk follows the “hugely successful” Family Cask collection. Only 60 trunks are available globally.

The collection comes in a custom-made trunk, imitating a “contemporary” take on a traditional shipping trunk. It contains 50 200ml bottles of Glenfarclas single malt, one from each year from 1954 to 2003.

In addition to the bottles, the trunk also includes four tumblers, four nosing glasses and a water jug, all made from crystal by Scottish glass maker Glencairn Crystal.

It also contains four slate coasters, three hand-printed and leather-bound books – one with the history of the distillery, and another with George Grant’s tasting notes for each expression – and a replica of the oldest known painting of the distillery. The original painting dates back to 1791 and hangs in the Glenfarclas Private Drinking Room.

“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to buy a full collection of vintages in a complete set,” said George Grant, sales director and sixth generation family member of the Grant family, owner of Glenfarclas.

“It is the first – and last – chance to purchase this, as some of the vintages contained in the trunk are from the last casks of their respective years.

“We are thrilled to bring this ambitious project to fruition, one which could only be realised due to my grandfather’s foresight in laying down casks as far back as the 1950s.”

The next release of classic Family Casks will launch in spring 2019.

The Glenfarclas Family Cask Trunk is priced at £100,000 (US$127,583)
