Vinexpo to launch first Shanghai exhibition in 2019

Wine and spirits trade show Vinexpo will continue to expand globally with the launch of its first exhibition in Shanghai next year.

The new exhibition will allow Vinexpo to “penetrate deeper” into the Chinese market

The new biennial event will take place on 23-25 October 2019 at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center (SWEECC).

It will give Vinexpo an annual presence in China by complementing Vinexpo Hong Kong, which is also held every two years.

“For 37 years, the Vinexpo brand has raised the profile of the wine and spirits sector around the world, becoming the sector’s international partner,” said Christophe Navarre, president of the Vinexpo supervisory board.

“Vinexpo Shanghai will complement our successful Hong Kong exhibition and take us a step further in penetrating deeper into the Chinese market.”

The new event will be dedicated to enabling local Chinese buyers to expand their portfolios through a programme of business meetings, tastings and masterclasses.

Vinexpo Shanghai will “aim to create development solutions for clients” by utilising Vinexpo’s 20-year experience in Asia Pacific and by continuing its Chinese e-commerce partnership with leading Asian online retailer Alibaba.

The show’s launch coincides with “remarkable growth” of wine consumption in China, which is expected to increase by over a third to nearly US$23 billion over the 2016-2021 period, according to a recent report compiled by Vinexpo and IWSR.

Vinexpo’s CEO, Guillaume Deglise, stepped down from his role earlier this year. A replacement has yet to be announced.
