ELLC releases cider barrel-aged gin
East London Liquor Company (ELLC) has released 621 bottles of its latest barrel-aged gin, which has been matured in ex-cider barrels and ex-ginger beer barrels.
The new expression is part of the firm’s Barrel-Aged Gin Programme
Bottled at 42% abv, the new expression is an aged iteration of ELLC London Dry Gin, which has been matured separately for six months in ex-cider barrels and ex-ginger beer barrels from Hackney-based soft drinks producer Square Root Soda.
The bottling is the second release of 2018 under the company’s Barrel-Aged Gin Programme. It follows the launch of a barrel-aged gin matured in an ex-peated whisky barrel in April this year.
It has notes of spicy ginger, sweet red apple, light caramel and green cardamom on the nose. On the palate, juniper and red apple give way to “spicier notes” of ginger, cinnamon and cardamom.
Throughout the year, ELLC will continue to release various iterations of barrel-aged gin.
Speaking to The Spirits Business, ELLC announced plans to launch its inaugural whiskies and brandy in the next year.
In June 2018, ELLC closed its crowdfunding campaign early, having raised £1.5 million (US$2m) in 30 days.
