This week saw London restaurant and cocktail bar Quaglino’s launch its latest drinks list, called The Science of Sustainability.

The menu has been separated into three parts to explore the global environmental issues of the past, present and future.

Quaglino’s teamed up with Hunger Project UK and food waste collection service Indie Ecology to ensure that every aspect of the menu adheres to the values of its message.

Campari returned to London with its latest Creates installation, which has been designed to give guests the chance to experience what it would be like inside a Campari cocktail.

Campari Creates The Mostra is offering drinks fans the chance to enjoy a Negroni inside artist Mark McClure’s installation, which is inspired by the effect of light in a cocktail.

SB attend Santa Teresa’s Club 1796 dinner this week and learnt about the Venezuelan rum brand’s fascinating history.

Alberto Vollmer, CEO and fifth-generation member of the family owners, spoke to guests about about the brand’s heritage and provenance, its unique solera ageing process, and explained how it has managed to overcome such adversity in a volatile domestic market.

Following its distribution deal with Bacardi, the brand is now growing its presence in international spirits markets.

Johnnie Walker owner Diageo has partnered with the Scottish Football Association for a major new alcohol education campaign.

The Drink Positive campaign kicked off this week and encourages football fans, coaches and players to be aware of the effects alcohol has on the body and to encourage moderate drinking.

The campaign aims to reach one million Scots with its responsible drinking message.

Jägermeister UK announced the winner of its Meister Hunter cocktail competition as Stevey Arroyo, formerly of Salt Dog Slim’s in Liverpool.

Arroyo won over the crowd with his Gone Camping creation, which was complete with campfire, marshmallow and Jägermeister fudge.

The two-day final saw bartenders take part in a foraging workshop, where they had to hunt out ingredients to use in their cocktail.

Amaro di Angostura hosted the UK finals of its Versus cocktail competition, with London venue Laki Kane and Manchester’s The Liars Club triumphing in the contest.

The competition made its debut in Lithuania and Ukraine this summer and will also see rounds take place in Malaysia, Sweden and Denmark later this year.

The winning teams from both bars will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the Athens Bar Show in November.

This week, William Grant & Sons-owned Monkey Shoulder took its Monkey Mixer out on tour across the UK.

The Monkey Mixer’s first stop was at Tesco’s head offices in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, where the team handed out samples of Monkey Shoulder’s Lazy Old Fashioned cocktail from the 11,000 litre pimped out cement mixer.

The Monkey Mixer tour continues in London next week, where it can be found at The Cocktail Village at London Cocktail week from 1-7 October.

UK-based gin brand Palmer’s headed to Leiths School of Food and Wine to host a gin and food pairing seminar.

Natalie Wallis-Palmer, of Palmer’s Gin, lead the seminar, which saw the brand pair its Distillers Cut and Strawberry & Rose Celebration Gin with dishes such as gravlax.

The session also saw Copper Rivet Dockyard Gin, Sipsmith London Dry and Tanqueray Sevilla Gin paired with onion and anchovy tarts, and apple strudel.

Award-winning cocktail bar Dante NYC launched a pop-up at London’s Quaglino’s this week, and will be taking over the venue until 2 October.

The team from NYC will be serving their Aperitivo offering, consisting of a specially curated menu of 10 drinks for the week-long residency.

Highlights from the pop-up’s menu include the Chocolate Negroni, made from Fords Gin, Campari, Cinzano 1757 Rosso, crème de cacao, chocolate bitters and Valrhona; and the Unlikely Negroni, which combines Cabeza with Campari, Cinzano 1757 Rosso, banana, coconut, pineapple shrub, Thai chilli and sesame oil.

This week, SB headed to The Ned in London to celebrate the re-launch of Grey Goose La Vanille, a vanilla-flavoured expression from the French vodka brand.

Assembled journalists and on-trade insiders were treated to Grey Goose La Vanille cocktails created by Grey Goose brand ambassador Joe McCanta and Pornstar Martini creator Douglas Ankrah.

The evening also saw Grey Goose cellar master François Thibault lead a tasting of the new expression.

The Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) has named Richard Harding as the new school principal at its WSET School in London.

New to the wine and spirits trade, Harding has a strong background in education and joins WSET from Nacro, a national education provider.

Richard is now responsible for maintaining teaching standards at WSET School in London, managing and developing the team of WSET-certified educators and planning the annual schedule of courses.

UK-based spirits producer The Lakes Distillery welcomed members of its Founder Members club to its Cumbrian distillery to present them with their first bottles of single malt whisky distilled at the site.

Founder Members were able to pick their bottles up from the distillery at its Autumn Whisky Festival.

The day included special tastings of spirit and a Border Reivers re-enactment group were on hand to promote the latest whisky release, Steel Bonnets – the first ever blend of English and Scotch malt whisky.
