Salcombe Gin partners with chef Michael Caines

Devon-based Salcombe Gin has collaborated with Michelin star chef Michael Caines to create the first expression in its new Voyager Series.

Chef Michael Caines has created a new limited edition gin in partnership with Salcombe Gin

Each gin in the Voyager Series will be developed in collaboration with a renowned chef or winemaker and will reflect their “individual personality and style”.

The first gin in the series, called Arabella, has been created in partnership with Devon-born chef Michael Caines, who has held two Michelin stars for 18 years.

“I chose to work with Salcombe Gin because, out of all the gins on the UK market, I believe that Salcombe Gin produce gins of exceptional quality,” said Caines.

“They share an understanding of how to layer complex flavours and aromas, creating the perfect gin to be enjoyed with a premium mixer, in classic cocktails or simply served on its own as a sipping gin. Salcombe Gin also shares my focus on utilising the finest local and regional produce.”

Arabella gin is said to have a “strong backbone of traditional juniper”, as well as English coriander, fresh citrus peel and spices. Other ingredients include almonds, green cardamom, lemon thyme, verbena and hibiscus.

Caines added: “The stand out flavours of citrus complimented with the fresh savoury notes of lemon thyme makes my Salcombe Voyager Series gin ideal to drink before dinner, as well as paired with modern European cuisine, which I favour.

“It’s best served over ice with a premium tonic water and garnished with a sprig of lemon thyme and a slice of green apple or in our summer cocktail ‘Appabella’ mixed with my Blanc de Blancs Champagne.”

Limited to 1,200 bottles, Salcombe Gin Voyager Series Arabella is priced at £65 (US$85) and will be available to purchase from early August.
