Benevolent appoints Bibendum CEO 2019 chairman

Drinks industry charity The Benevolent has appointed three new trustees, including Bibendum CEO Michael Saunders who will succeed Tom Yusuf as chairman next year.

Bibendum CEO Michael Saunders will take over as The Benevolent chairman in 2019

Saunders’ appointment will be officially announced at The Vintners’ Company Annual Wine Trade Lunch, which will be held on 11 January 2019.

The other new trustees are Troy Christensen, chief executive of Enotria & Coe, and Tom King, managing director of Europe for Treasury Wine Estates.

It has also been revealed that Christensen will succeed Saunders to become chairman in January 2021.

Chris Porter, chief executive, said: “I am so pleased to have three new trustees for The Benevolent who will not only bring great business acumen and further experience to our board of trustees, but three who truly understand the mission and core values of the charity.

“As industry leaders they have all been so supportive of The Benevolent as corporate partners, at our events and encouraging their own teams to get behind the trade charity with individual fundraising. They have all led by example in their own companies.”

Saunders first joined Bibendum in 1983, but stepped down as the business development director for its parent company Conviviality in December 2017. He rejoined Bibendum following its sale to C&C Group in May this year.
