Proximo Spirits CEO Mark Teasdale departs

Becle’s US unit Proximo Spirits has announced that president and CEO Mark Teasdale will step down from the company next month.

Jose Cuervo producer Becle has announced that Mark Teasdale will leave its US unit Proximo Spirits

The Jose Cuervo maker said that Teasdale will depart the company “due to personal interests and to pursue a personal venture”.

Teasdale will join New York-based spirits firm Bigger & Leith this summer. The company produces Italian gin brand Malfy and Spytail, a rum finished in Cognac barrels.

Biggar & Leith founder Elwyn Gladstone said: “Mark’s addition is an exciting next step in our company’s development. His creativity and spirit’s expertise are sure to accelerate our growth as a premium spirits company.”

Teasdale added: “I am excited to reunite with Elwyn. He is an exceptional entrepreneur, and we have always enjoyed a fun and successful partnership – from the launch of Hendrick’s Gin at William Grant to our collaboration on Kraken Rum for Proximo.

“The fact that Elwyn and his team, within a few short years, have grown Malfy and Spytail to 100,000 cases with a distribution network spanning 40 countries is astonishing and impressive.”

Teasdale will leave Proximo Spirits effective 3 July 2018.

From 18 June, Michael Cheek, a member of the Becle board of directors, will assist the company in the transition until a replacement for the role is found.

Cheek has more than 40 years of experience in the industry, having worked as president of the Brown-Forman global spirits division, president of the Heublein wine division and senior vice president of The Coca Cola Company. He was also the first chief executive officer of Promixo Spirits.

In addition to Jose Cuervo, Becle’s portfolio includes Bushmills Irish whiskey, Three Olives and Hangar 1 vodka brands, Stranahan’s whiskey and Boodles gin.

Earlier this year, the company completed its acquisition of Canadian whisky brand Pendleton.
