Artesian launches new menu inspired by memories
Award-winning bar Artesian at The Langham, London, has launched its new menu – Artesian Moments, which aims to evoke memories through flavour.
That Moment When… You Went Travelling
The new collection of cocktails has been created by head bartender Remy Savage and bar manager Anna Sebastian, who both joined the acclaimed hotel bar in October last year.
Stemming from Savage’s interest in philosophy, the menu focuses on flavours and feelings associated with key moments in a person’s life.
The pair collected data from a metaphysics-inspired questionnaire to create the cocktails, asking respondents 17 questions relating to key events in their lives, and the feelings and flavours associated with them.
More than 500 people responded to the survey, detailing their experiences of riding a bike, falling in love, travelling and retiring, and showed that “certain flavours were emblematic” of key moments in their lives.
That Moment When… It All Began
Artesian Moments offers a choice of 17 drinks, with each name leading on from the opening line That Moment When…’, and includes …It All Began, made with apricot eau-de-vie, vanilla, jasmine and salt; and …You First Rode a Bike, which is a mix of Monkey 47 gin, citrus, gangnam tops, lavender and iron sorbet.
Other creations include …You Fell in Love, which features Michter’s Sour Mash Whiskey; rose isolated chilli and pomegranate; …You Turned 30, made with Glenfiddich 15, sauternes, orange wine and isolated tannins; and …You Finally Retired, comprising Grey Goose vodka, melon, geranium and absinthe blanche.
Each cocktail is accompanied by a bespoke illustration, created by Paris-based artist Tatiana Blinova.
Savage said: “Our wish with Artesian Moments is to create a deeply personal menu for our guests; one that can be enjoyed collectively, but still inspire an individual memory.
“It was our customers’ experiences and memories that helped create these drinks. You could say they were there all along, we just had to ask.”
