Archie Rose to open second distillery

Australian spirits producer Archie Rose Distilling Company has begun construction of a second Sydney distillery, which is expected to be completed next year.

Archie Rose’s distillery in Rosebery, New South Wales

The new site in Botany, located 4km south of Archie Rose’s current Rosebery distillery in New South Wales, will also include a new bond store for its existing whisky stock to better monitor maturation and provide additional capacity for gin, vodka and whisky production.

The facility will feature energy efficient brewing and distilling technology, some of which is the “first of its kind” in Australia.

The distillery will be custom built to accommodate Archie Rose’s production processes – including its six-malt single malt mash bill, extensive use of specially roasted malts, malted rye and individually distilled gin botanicals.

Once the distillery is completed, the Rosebery site will become dedicated to R&D projects and limited release trials that “explore the fringes of spirits production”.

“This new site is a massive step for us,” said Archie Rose founder, Will Edwards. “Not only will it allow us to bring all our casks, packaging, raw materials and team back under one roof, but it provides us with the opportunity to re-conceive and design every aspect of the distillery specifically to suit our unique production methods.

“The Botany expansion also allows us to consider sustainability in not just our processes (as we have done since day one) but also our production equipment, to use less water, power and gas, and capture and reuse as much energy as possible throughout the distilling process.

“Finally, and arguably most excitingly, once the Botany site is completed we’ll dedicate our current Rosebery distillery entirely to R&D, limited release trials and the weirder innovation projects we are constantly undertaking and love to work on.”
