Akevitt Blank gains listing in Harvey Nichols

Norwegian spirits producer Oslo Håndverksdestilleri (OHD) has secured the first aquavit listing at luxury department store Harvey Nichols.

Akevitt Blank is the first aquavit to launch in Harvey Nichols

OHD’s Akevitt Blank expression is the first spirit of its kind to go on sale at the department store.

Ivan Dixon, spirits buyer at Harvey Nichols, said: “A category previously unexplored in the UK, akevitt or aquavit is definitely one to watch.

“The herbal, savoury botanical nature of the spirit, combined with its many different guises and mixing possibilities, position it as a potential answer to gin, in flavour profile and structure.

“This isn’t to mention the rise of Scandi-culture and cuisine, which only work to aquavit’s advantage when it comes to customer association.”

Akevitt Blank is made using caraway, heather flower, angelica root, juniper and sorrel, giving the spirit a “clean, herbal” nose with an oily, spice lead flavour and a “long peppery finish”

Espen Tollefsen, managing director of OHD, said: ‘‘This is a big step to establishing Akevitt Blank, we’re thrilled to have secured a place for Blank in one of the most prestigious department stores in the UK.”

Akevitt Blank is bottled at 45% abv and is available for £39.95 (US$54.70) per 500ml bottle online and in store at Harvey Nichols.

The distillery launched its first batch of cask-aged Akevitt last year, a release SB considered one of 2017’s most innovative spirits launches.
