Writers’ Tears unveils latest cask strength whiskey

Irish whiskey brand Writers’ Tears has launched its 2018 cask strength expression, a blend of single pot still and single malt Irish whiskey.

Writers’ Tears Cask Strength 2018 Vintage is aged in ex-Bourbon barrels

Unveiled at an event in Dublin earlier this week, the eighth annual cask strength release from the Irish whiskey brand is triple-distilled and has been aged in ex-Bourbon barrels.

Bernard Walsh, founder and chief executive of Walsh Whiskey, which owns Writers’ Tears, said: “This whiskey displays a complex nose of toasted cereal, almond oils, creamy chocolate and sweet floral notes.

“On the palate it reveals wild honey, summer fruits and fresh ginger all underpinned by a spicy single pot still base. It has a delicate, warm and lingering finish.”

The packaging of the 2018 vintage is a development of the design introduced last year featuring illustrations by Irish artist Linda Byrne depicting the whiskey distilling process.

The non-chill-filtered expression is limited to 5,175 individually numbered bottles, each signed by Walsh.

Writers’ Tears Cask Strength 2018 Vintage will be available in selected markets worldwide, including the UK, Australia, Canada and Ukraine carrying an RRP of €130 (US$157).

The launch follows news from Ireland’s Walsh Whiskey Distillery that it is preparing to expand availability of its Writers’ Tears whiskey brand to 40 US states by the end of 2018.
