Writers’ Tears to double US presence in 2018

Ireland’s Walsh Whiskey Distillery is preparing to expand availability of its Writers’ Tears whiskey brand to 40 US states by the end of 2018.

Writers’ Tears Irish whiskey will grow its US presence to 40 states

Writers’ Tears first entered the US market in 2015, and is already available in 17 states, including California, Florida, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon and Pennsylvania.

Having secured distribution with Disaronno International, Walsh Whiskey Distillery intends to take Writers’ Tears – Copper Pot to new markets, including Texas and Washington, more than doubling its current market footprint.

The expression is matured in American oak Bourbon barrels, which deliver notes of apple, vanilla and honey on the nose, leading to gentle spice, ginger, butterscotch and toasted oak on the palate.

John Kelly, Walsh Whiskey Distillery commercial director, said: “We are delighted to be able to significantly increase the supply available to the US market and in particular to introduce Writers’ Tears to the States where the company’s other whiskeys under The Irishman brand are already very popular, such as Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Georgia and Virginia.

“We will also be distributing to some states for the first time, such as Texas and Washington. Writers’ Tears will be available in over 40 states by the end of 2018 and we will continue to grow distribution significantly across the United States in the next few years.”

Last month, Walsh Whiskey Distillery signed a €4 million (US$4.89m) distribution deal with Woodman Wines & Spirits in Ontario, Canada.
