Irish distillery uses sausage tree fruit for new vodka
Ireland’s Shed Distillery of PJ Rigney has expanded its portfolio with the launch of a new vodka made from the fruit of the sausage tree.

The new expression, unveiled at this year’s ProWein trade show, has been inspired by the kigelia tree, which is native to Africa and is more commonly known as the sausage tree.
To make Sausage Tree Pure Irish Vodka, the fruits of the kigelia tree and wild Irish nettle are distilled alongside Irish grains at the distillery in Drumshanbo, County Leitrim.
Founded by Patrick J Rigney in 2014, The Shed Distillery claims to be the first distillery in the Irish region of Connacht for more than 100 years. The distillery launched its first product, Gunpowder Irish Gin, in 2016.
Sausage Tree Irish Vodka has been created for the super-premium vodka market and will be distributed across Ireland by Dalcassian Wines & Spirits.
Bottled at 43% abv, Sausage Tree Irish Vodka will have an RRP between €44 (US$54) and €49 (US$60) in Ireland.
