Fusion unveils Scotch-Australian blend
By Amy HopkinsHybrid spirits producer Fusion Whisky has created a blend of Scotch and Australian whisky called The Brisbane.
The Brisbane is a blend of whiskies from the Glen Garioch, Glen Grant and Starward distilleriesThe expression follows the launch of Fusion’s Scotch-Dutch blend Winter Queen, two Scotch-Indian blends, and a Scotch-Japanese whisky blend called The Glover.
The Brisbane has been created as part of a collaboration between Alex Bruce of Fife-based Scotch producer Adelphi and David Vitale of Starward Distillery, based in Melbourne, Australia.
The expression is a blend of two ex-Sherry hogsheads distilled at Glen Garioch, part of an ex-Sherry butt distilled at Glen Grant, and three ex-Apera casks distilled at Starward Distillery, Melbourne.
“Done with care and creativity, blending high quality whiskies from different maturation climates can result in some captivating and utterly unique whiskies,” said Bruce.
The Brisbane has been named in honour of Thomas Brisbane, who founded the Australian city of the same name.
While serving as governor of New South Wales, Brisbane enabled a free press and worked to improve conditions for colonists and secure compensation for indigenous people who lost their lands. He was born near Largs in Scotland in 1773.
Just 932 bottles of The Brisbane have been released, carrying an age statement of five-years-old and RPP of £150 (US$208).
