Fusion Whisky creates second Scotch-Indian blend

Blended whisky producer Fusion Whisky has launched a new expression combining spirits from Scotland and India, called E&K.

The E&K is a blend of whisky from Ardmore and Glenrothes distilleries in Scotland and from Amrut Distillery in India

Edinburgh-based Fusion Whisky’s latest limited-edition bottling is made from a blend of Scotch whisky from Ardmore and Glenrothes distilleries, and malt whisky from Amrut Distillery in Bangalore, India.

The whisky was made to celebrate the historic ties between India and Scotland, and is intended to honour Victor Bruce, the 9th Earl of Elgin and 13th Earl of Kincardine, who helped modernise India’s railways. This is the company’s second release in honour of Victor Bruce.

The recipe for The E&K blend was created by Bruce’s great-grandson, Alex Bruce, master blender and managing director of the Adelphi Distillery in Fife.

Bruce said: “The E&K is a long awaited and exciting blend of Scotch and Indian whisky. When you marry mature Scotch with whisky matured in a different climate you can create some exciting and extremely rewarding flavours, adding new layers of complexity and depth.”

The Amrut whisky is said to bring flavours of “tropical fruits and spice,” while the Ardmore provides “creaminess and sooty smoke,” and the Glenrothes adds a “Sherry-matured richness and texture to complete the balance”.

The newly released E&K whisky follows in the footsteps of Fusion’s earlier whisky series, The Glover, which blended Scotch and rare Japanese whisky.

Jim Millar, director of Fusion Whisky, said: “The Glover whisky pioneered the concept of using blends of world whisky to celebrate the great internationalism of Scots and the positive historic ties between Scotland and so many countries around the globe.”

One of Fusion Whisky’s core aims has been to celebrate the lives of Scots who made a positive impact in other countries. The Glover series took inspiration from Thomas Blake Glover, who was instrumental in the modernisation of Japan.

The E&K will be available through select specialist retailers for £135 (US$180).
