Berry Bros relaunches Old Potrero whiskey in UK

British wine and spirits merchant Berry Bros & Rudd has reintroduced Old Potrero 18th Century Style Whiskey to the UK after a 15-year absence.

Old Potrero 18th Century Style Whiskey is available in the UK after a 15-year absence

The relaunch follows Berry Bros & Rudd’s acquisition of a majority stake in Hotaling & Co (formerly the Anchor Distilling Company), the producer of the Old Potrero rye whiskey brand.

The limited release marks 15 years since Old Potrero was last shipped to the UK. After 2003, increased demand and limited production of the whiskey meant that all stock was retained in the US.

First released in 1996, Old Potrero was the brainchild of Fritz Maytag, and was named after the distillery’s location on Potrero Hill, San Francisco.

Maytag, a pioneer of the US craft brewing and distilling movement, created Old Potrero as “a whiskey reminiscent of the original style of the late 1700s”.

The whiskey is made from 100% malted rye grain, which is distilled in copper pot stills. It is aged in a combination of new and second-fill lightly toasted American oak barrels.

Old Potrero 18th Century Style Whiskey is exclusively available to buy from Berry Bros’ 63 Pall Mall store in London for an RRP of £85 (US$117) until 1 April. It has been bottled at 51.2% abv.

From 3 April, it will be available for wholesalers, retailers and bar operators to purchase from Field, Morris & Verdin, Berry Bros & Rudd’s agency and wholesale division.

The news follows Berry Bros & Rudd’s reintroduction of its own-label London Dry gin with an updated recipe after a four-year hiatus.
