Halewood adds Dead Man’s Fingers rum to portfolio

Liverpool-based Halewood International has expanded its spirits portfolio with the acquisition of spiced rum brand Dead Man’s Fingers for an undisclosed fee.

Dead Man’s Fingers is a spiced rum brand, made in Cornwall

Dead Man’s Fingers Spiced Cornish Rum joins the company’s growing rum range, which includes Rum Sixty-Six, Liverpool Rum and recently-launched Sadler’s Peaky Blinder Spiced Rum.

Founded by Nethan Hayes in 2015, Dead Man’s Fingers is a blend of Caribbean rums, with notes of saffron cake, sweet Pedro Ximenez Sherry ice cream, caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and orange.

Stewart Hainsworth, group chief executive at Halewood Wines & Spirits, said: “Our business strategy of investing in premium artisanal spirits is paying huge dividends. We place great importance on the authenticity and quality of the brands.”

Halewood said the acquisition is a “timely move” as it strives to offer products at various price points. Hainsworth told The Spirits Business in 2016 that his company was “actively looking at” rum brands as potential acquisitions.

“We believe we’ve produced a liquid that is as good as any established or contemporary spiced rum out there,” said Hayes.

“While we have achieved success to date through a handful of on- and off-trade listings, Halewood’s distribution structure will drive growth and allow more people to enjoy it as much as we do – this is what we’re really excited about.”

The news follows the company’s revival of the John Crabbie & Co whisky brand after a 40-year hiatus with the launch of two limited-edition single malts.
