Bill Newlands named president of Constellation Brands
Constellation Brands’ chief operating officer Bill Newlands will take on the additional role of president of the company.
Bill Newlands is now president and COO of Constellation Brands
Newlands, who was promoted to COO in January 2017, will take over from Rob Sands as president of Constellation Brands. Sands will remain CEO of the company.
In his expanded role, Newlands will have “oversight and accountability” for all operating aspects of Constellation, and will seek to advance its position in the industry.
“Bill is a dynamic leader who has demonstrated an ability to advance our strategic priorities and strengthen our innovation capabilities in ways that further bolster our position as a leading total beverage alcohol company,” said Sands.
“I look forward to working with Bill to ensure our company continues to deliver long-term, sustainable growth that outpaces the market and competition.”
Newlands joined Constellation Brands from Beam in 2015 as EVP, chief growth officer. His role expanded to include leadership of the company’s wine and spirits division in 2016, before becoming COO the following year.
Newlands recently spoke to The Spirits Business about Constellation’s “bold moves” and shed some light on the company’s plan to develop cannabis-based drinks.
