Tesco reconfirms position as WSET gold corporate patron

Supermarket chain Tesco has renewed its partnership as one of 11 gold corporate patrons of the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET), which work together to provide ‘essential’ funding for the education provider.

Tesco is one of 11 WSET gold corporate patrons

The leading supermarket retailer said the renewed partnership is part of a wider strategy for the business to further educate both staff and consumers about alcoholic beverages.

The Corporate Patrons programme helps the WSET fund its courses and qualifications, as well as maintain and improve its digital learning facilities and online global campus.

Patrons include leading supermarkets, drinks producers and distributors. For a long time, Tesco has been using WSET courses to train its staff in wines and spirits.

Rob Cooke, Tesco BWS category director, said: “As the UK’s largest retailer for wines and spirits we have a responsibility to our staff and our customers to offer the best training possible.

“By working closely with WSET we are able to offer all of our BWS staff a comprehensive wine and spirits education and support the global industry in line with our core business strategy.”

In March last year, wine and spirits merchant Berry Bros & Rudd signed up to support the WSET as a silver corporate patron.
