Italicus names Missaglia global brand ambassador

Italian bartender Luca Missaglia has been appointed as the first global brand ambassador for liqueur brand Italicus Rosolio di Bergamotto.

Aqua Shard’s Luca Missaglia joins the Italicus team as global brand ambassador

Created by Italian spirits expert Giuseppe Gallo in September 2016, Italicus aims to revive the rosolio aperitivo category.

In his new role, Missaglia will work alongside Gallo to educate the industry and consumers on Italicus and the rosolio category.

His most recent role was as senior bar manager at London’s Aqua Shard, where he was responsible for menu development. The Italian native, who moved to London in 2009, also previously worked at Soho venues Lab and Quo Vadis.

Production of Italicus – made at a family-owned distillery in Moncalieri, Torino – begins with bergamot from the UNESCO-protected area in the Calabrian region and cedro from Sicilia.

The two ingredients undergo the sfumatura process – a traditional technique for manually extracting essential oils – before being blended with Italian neutral grain spirit.

Designed by Stranger & Stranger, the Italicus bottle is intended to pay tribute to Italy’s history and heritage along with the native flavours found across the country’s 20 regions.

Gallo added: “Luca is one of London’s leading bartenders, and his playful character and passion for his Italian heritage makes him a perfect addition to our team. 2018 is an important year for Italicus as we are planning global expansion, establishing our core markets and continuing the strong growth we’ve seen in our first 15 months.”
