Watling will assume the role of director of sales and marketing strategy at the Stourton-based distillery, where he will help spearhead growth in national and international markets.

He previously worked for Hiram Walker before joining Allied Distillers as marketing director. Watling later worked with International Distillers and Vitners, which formed Diageo, where he then acted as director of whisky.

Over the last 12 months, Watling has been master of Livery company The Worshipful Company of Distillers. He has recently completed his time in the role.

“We are very honoured to have such a highly respected industry veteran as Richard join our board,” commented Daniel Szor, founder and CEO of the Cotswolds Distillery.

“I’ve come to know him through the distillers’ company and have always been impressed by his great knowledge and drive. Richard will help us chart our course as we grow our market share and expand trade sales in whisky and gin.”

Earlier this year, Cotswolds Distillery launched its inaugural whisky – a single malt made using barley grown in the Cotswolds.
