Cooper Spirits debuts 18yo whiskey

Independent producer The Cooper Spirits Company has unveiled the third expression in its Lock Stock & Barrel series – an 18-year-old straight rye whiskey.

Lock Stock & Barrel 18 is the third expression released from the Lock Stock & Barrel range

Said to maintain the signature “smooth and heady balance of aromatics” of Cooper’s Lock Stock & Barrel range, the expression follows the release of Lock Stock & Barrel 16 in 2016.

Lock, Stock & Barrel 18 is double distilled from a mash of 100% rye grain. The unfiltered spirit is aged in newly charred American oak barrels at low temperatures for 18 years.

The tasting notes suggest: “hot, buttered gingerbread, dried peach, toasted pecan, ripe honeydew and tobacco leaf”.

It is presented in a matte black bottle, complete with an embossed label and wood cork, which pays homage to “the bygone era of illicit saloons and bootleggers of frontier America”.

Senior vice president of marketing and innovation at The Cooper Spirits Company, Robyn Greene, said: “At 18 years of age, this limited release is one of the oldest rye whiskies available today. It’s truly special, bold yet perfectly balanced, smooth and flavourful.”

The limited-edition expression is bottled at 54.5% abv and has an RRP of US$229.99.
