The Dalmore 40 Year Old set to launch globally

Luxury single malt Scotch The Dalmore has revealed its latest permanent expression – a 40-year-old whisky priced at £6,000.

The Dalmore 40-year-old has an RRP of £6,000 per bottle

The new release from the Highland distillery has been matured in American white oak ex-Bourbon barrels, before being aged further in 30-year-old Gonzalez Byass Matusalem oloroso Sherry butts. The whisky was then finished in first-fill Bourbon barrels.

Bottled at 42% abv, only 750 bottles of The Dalmore 40 will be released this year, available from specialist retailers globally.

The Dalmore 40 is said to have notes of Colombian coffee and marmalade on the nose, with flavours of gingerbread and honey on the palate leading to a finish of blood oranges, Bramley apples and liquorice.

French crystal house Baccarat was enlisted to design the hand-blown decanters, each decorated with The Dalmore’s 12-point stag emblem, which was created by Royal Warrant holders Hamilton & Inches.

Master distiller Paterson, who is celebrating 50 years in the whisky industry this year, said: “Consumers are becoming more discerning, more demanding, and with that demand we have had to start looking at different styles of whisky.

“It takes time, effort and vision to create an expression as complex as The Dalmore 40 years old, moving rare stocks of whisky between casks to build layer upon layer of character.

“When you bring it all together, it creates something very special indeed.”

As with previous The Dalmore releases, around 35% of the 40-year-old’s stock will be held back for the next vatting and matured for at least another year.

The 40-year-old follows the launch of The Dalmore 50 Year Old earlier this year, created to celebrate Paterson’s milestone anniversary.
