Stevenson to leave Inver House after 23 years as MD

Inver House Distillers has confirmed its managing director, Graham Stevenson, is to leave the business after joining the venture that has purchased Pernod Ricard’s Glenallachie Distillery.

Graham Stevenson has acted as MD of Inver House Distillers for almost 23 years

French drinks group Pernod Ricard announced yesterday that The Glenallachie Consortium – comprising Stevenson, along with former BenRiach Distillery Company managing director Billy Walker, and Trisha Savage – had agreed to acquire the Glenallachie Scotch whisky distillery.

The deal includes the distillery’s flagship Glenallachie single malt whisky brand, as well as blended Scotch whisky brands MacNair’s and White Heather.

Inver House Distillers – which creates the anCnoc, Old Pulteney, Balblair and Hankey Bannister brands – has now announced that MD Stevenson is to step down in September after 23 years at the helm.

Martin Leonard will take over at MD of Inver House Distillers

He will replaced by Martin Leonard, the company’s current operations director who has responsibility for Inver House’s five distilleries in Scotland, as well as all maturation, blending and bottling, logistics, health and safety and quality assurance across the business.

Leonard previously spent 10 years with United Distillers, and is also currently a director and former chairman of the Scotch Whisky Research Institute; member of the Operations Committee of the Scotch Whisky Association and chairman of its Customs & Excise Committee; and a Keeper of the Quaich.

“After 17 years with the Inver House Distillers business I am very much looking forward to taking up this new position, bringing my experience and knowledge of working in every aspect of operations to the role,” said Leonard.

“My ambition is to continue the dedicated leadership of Graham Stevenson, who leaves our business and brands in excellent shape for future growth and success.”

Inver House is targeting international growth following the completion of a £10 million investment programme. The company is the Scotch whisky subsidiary of International Beverage Holdings.
