Spirit of Tiki to create ‘world’s first punched Punch’

London festival Spirit of Tiki is set to create what is slated to be the world’s first ‘punched’ Punch, mixed inside a boxing bag, at this year’s edition in Regent’s Park.

Spirit of Tiki is set to create the “world’s first ‘punched’ Punch”

Following a successful inaugural year in 2016, Spirit of Tiki organisers Georgi Radev, Mahiki bar manager, rum enthusiast Roger Barnes and global rum ambassador Ian Burrell are inviting drinks fans to “throw a few punches” to help mix the cocktail, which will contain Mahiki Coconut Rum and a selection of Re’al Syrups.

The festival will feature a Polynesian Village comprising more than 12 stalls serving tropical cocktails priced from £3 and street food priced from £5. Each exhibitor will host spirit and cocktail-focussed masterclasses.

This year welcomes the launch of the Premium Lounge, which will feature presentations spanning Tiki culture, rum, cocktails and garnishes.

Re’al Syrups will host a cocktail competition that will see bartenders from Mahiki, Trailer Happiness and London Cocktail Club battle it out for the chance to visit Kentucky with the brand.

The site will be decked out with colourful statues and flowers, with hula dancing, DJs and drumming performances. Each day will end with a “surprise Tiki performance”.

“Tiki represents an escape from reality, living your life in eternal holiday mode, following the Aloha Spirit and spreading happiness,” said co-founder Radev. “Tiki is about quality, visual, delicious tropical cocktails that take you to a journey to an exotic island. It’s such a great thing and I want to get more people to get to know about tiki and put some happiness into their lives.

“Lots of people know about tiki now, but not too many understand it. This is why we decided to create the first UK tiki Festivali. Spirt of Tiki teaches you how to live your life in good spirit and how to use the spirit to make great tiki cocktails.”

Last year, festival goers created a record-breaking Piña Colada sponsored by Re’al and Don Q Rum, made in a 500 litre artificial pineapple.

The event will take place at Regent’s Park Crescent on 14 and 15 of July. Visit www.spiritoftiki.co.uk for more information.
