Rowhouse Spirits releases classic amaro
By Michael J RitchiePhiladelphia-based Rowhouse Spirits has added Standard Amaro to its portfolio, a follow-up to its traditional-style herbal liqueur, Bear Trap.
Rowhouse Spirits has launched a Standard AmaroDean Browne, master distiller of Rowhouse Spirits, collaborated with William Reed, a Philadelphia restauranteur, to create the amaro.
Browne said: “To make Standard Amaro we distilled Pennsylvania wine, infused it with bitter herbs and charred Pennsylvania peaches, then set it aside in an oak barrel to rest and mingle.” It is then blended with Pennsylvania wine and bottled at 32% abv.
Standard Amaro, a digestivo, was developed to complement Bear Trap, is an appertivo. The colour of each follows the Italian adage that roughly says: “Drink liqueurs that are the colour of sunsets before dinner, and those that are the colour of the night should be taken after dinner.”
Last year London-based spirits maker Asterley Bros launched Dispense Amaro, crafted by combining a “unique blend” of 24 botanicals with the brand’s signature vermouth.
