First Bar Convent Brooklyn show to focus on ‘craft’

Trade show Bar Convent Berlin is set to launch its first international extension – Bar Convent Brooklyn – in the US next year, with a plan to focus on premium ‘craft’ brands.

Bar Convent Berlin has selected the Brooklyn, New York as the site of its first international expansion

In 2015, the show’s owner Reed Exhibitions announced plans to launch new editions of BCB around the world, claiming China would host the first expansion in 2016, followed by Latin America.

However, last year BCB’s co-founder Helmut Adam confirmed that the international expansion had been rephrased due to economic headwinds in a number of markets.

Now, plans have been confirmed to launch Bar Covent Brooklyn in 2018 – BCB’s 11th year of operation. The event will be held 12-13 June at the Brooklyn Expo Center and will “primarily feature” premium craft spirits brands.

In addition to BCB’s usual offering to taste forums, demonstrations, keynote addresses and panel discussions, the event will showcase products from a select number of craft breweries and bar equipment providers.

The event will be curated by the US and German offices of Reed Exhibitions, which acquired BCB in 2015.

“In Europe, Bar Convent has proved to be the B2B event for connecting the global beverage industry with bartenders as well as food and beverage pros from all over the world. Now, we are going to focus on the American market,” said Petra Lassahn, Director of Reed Exhibitions Deutschland.

“The New York metropolitan area has the highest concentration of bartenders in the country, making it an ideal location for professionally sampling alcohol as a semi-luxury. We are looking forward to the first edition of Bar Convent Brooklyn in June 2018.”

Programming and registration details for Bar Covent Brooklyn will be announced in summer 2017.

Bar Convent Berlin 2017 will take place on 10-11 October at Station Berlin and will this year feature France as its Country of Honour.
