Brown-Forman to champion BenRiach trio in Singapore

Jack Daniel’s owner Brown-Forman has announced its product focuses for the upcoming TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition & Conference, with recent acquisition BenRiach single malt Scotch whisky the featured brand.

The event will mark BenRiach’s formal entry into travel retail, and follows the travel retail launch of Brown-Forman’s Slane Irish Whiskey purchase at the IAADFS Duty Free Show of the Americas in Orlando, Florida, last month.

Brown-Forman completed its £281 million (US$405m) takeover of The BenRiach Distillery Company and its three Scotch whisky brands The GlenDronach, BenRiach, and Glenglassaugh in June 2016.

The BenRiach line available in Singapore comprises travel retail exclusives BenRiach Peated Quarter Cask Single Malt Scotch Whisky, BenRiach Classic Quarter Cask Single Malt Scotch Whisky and  BenRiach 10 Year Triple Distilled Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Available in both peated and unpeated variants, the quarter casks used in the expressions were hand-made to spec at the Speyside Cooperage, with the smaller size allowing for greater contact between the wood and the spirit for increased flavour and aroma complexity.

The unpeated BenRiach Quarter Cask is said to offer notes of lemon zest, honeyed apricots and freshly stewed barley, while the peated expression is characterised by notes of “honeyed peat and smoked pine wood”.

BenRiach 10 Year is said to be the world’s only triple-distilled Speyside Scotch and has been aged in a combination of first-fill oak and first-fill ex-Pedro Ximenez Sherry casks.

According to Brown-Forman, the BenRiach distillery is the only Speyside single malt whisky distillery to produce unpeated, peated and triple distilled malts.

“With the addition of BenRiach Single Malt Scotch Whisky we have significantly broadened the reach of the already robust Brown-Forman Travel Retail whisk(e)y portfolio,” said Marshall Farrer, managing director of Brown-Forman Global Travel Retail.

“BenRiach is among the finest single malts in the world and gives us a strong entry into one of the most dynamic and consistent growth segments in the spirits industry.”

Farrer added that The GlenDronach and Glengassaugh single malts will be added to the TR portfolio in due course.

The TFWA announced ahead of the Asia Pacific Exhibition & Conference that it has attracted a record number of exhibitors, with the event set to take place at the Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre from 7-11 May.
