Pernod intros caviar-infused vodka brand L’Orbe

Pernod Ricard has confirmed the launch of a new caviar-infused vodka brand, L’Orbe, which will retail at £175 (US$213) per 200ml bottle.

A spokesperson for Pernod Ricard has confirmed to The Spirits Business that a report published by Bloomberg detailing the new brand is accurate.

Pernod has patented a technology developed by French cosmetic products manufacturer Capsum, which coats the caviar with an water-based film – allowing it to sit in the liquid.

Without this film, the sturgeon eggs – sourced from French brand Sturia – would explode. The caviar is held in a narrow column in the centre of the bottle which is pierced with six small holes.

The vodka is produced at the French drinks group’s Absolut distillery in Sweden, and the caviar comes from Gironde, France. Both products are delivered to Pernod Ricard’s innovation facilities in Paris. Here, the ingredients are assembled within the bottle, infusing resulting in a liquid that offers butter and hazelnut flavours.

The Spirits Business understands that by 2020, Pernod Ricard aims to sell 100,000 bottles of L’Orbe.
