Ardross distillery gets go-ahead

Highland Council has approved plans for an old farm site to be transformed into a Scotch whisky distillery and tasting room, to be called The Ardross Distillery.

The Ardross Distillery will start production in summer 2018

Ardross Investments Ltd submitted a planning application in November last year to build the distillery along with warehouses and housing for workers, converting 19th century farm steadings.

Documents in the application state that the distillery will “use traditional process methods” and will include a “tasting lodge”, a small “whisky experience” centre and traditional dunnage warehouse.

The company intends to retain many of the original features of the existing buildings with some modern additions.

Ardross plan to produce a “very high-quality, niche whisky”, with production slated to begin in summer 2018.

Last month, the town of Donegal in Ireland is set to welcome its first distillery in 175 years after a planning application received approval.
